Kaddu Ratri is an annual festival dreamt up in Feb, 2016. The name is a rough translation into Hindi of “Night of the Hubbard.” Hubbard squashes are those blue (sometimes orange) monsters you might see at area farms in the fall. We buy a squash each fall and store it in our basement until February. That’s when we “slaughter” it and cook a multi-course meal (including dessert!) from it. The idea of the festival is to ward off the cold while celebrating the winter squash as food, rather than decoration.
Here are the annual invitations to date (click on each to see details). There was no Kaddu Ratri in 2021 or 2022 due to COVID.
